Trusting God when you don’t understand

Day 27 — {FMF} — Whole

God sees the whole picture not only of my life but history. He is the beginning and the end.

Sometimes, when pain, trials and difficulties enter my life, it’s hard to see beyond the muck and mire of living in a sin-filled world. During times like this, it’s hard to make sense of it all — let alone see the whole picture.

A year ago, we left our home in Czechia rather abruptly and we did not know if we would ever return for good. The months that followed that move were among the hardest in my life. I did not understand why things had happened as they had — no matter how earnestly I sought the matter out. In the end, my peace and eventual healing came only through acceptance that all I could do was trust God one day at a time, one moment at a time.

It’s easy isn’t it — to trust God on happy days, when life is as it should be? Yet nothing remains the same but God. The author of Hebrews says Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. The nature of God remains the same — His love, goodness, kindness and compassion towards us never change.

The challenge then is to remember who God is for me not only on the good days but the painful days. He never changes and He never leaves me. God was there on the day I was conceived and He knew all my days even before I was born.

I don’t know what kind of life chapter you are in — but I do know wherever your heart may be today, our Heavenly Father is with you. Looking back to that abrupt move a year ago — I can see how God used that to be a life-changing and life-giving time for our family. I did not realize it then but we desperately needed that move.

Our Loving Father sees the whole picture — the entirety of our lives and of human history. Whatever may not make sense today I believe someday we will understand in His presence and we will see that He makes all things beautiful in His time.
